Baizhu is actually mostly human but for his eyes, which he’d swapped with his pet snake, Changsheng, after making a pact with her. In doing so, he’s able to freely use Changsheng’s power to swap around medical conditions and qi/life force from person to person, not to mention that he’s also basically sharing his lifespan with her.
If your character is human, is your character capable themselves of sensing spiritual energy, youkai, demons, etc? Further, do they have harnessable spiritual powers? He’s capable of sensing some traces of elemental powers as well as malevolent energies considering his extensive research on the latter, but he doesn’t have any direct connections with the spiritual aside from Changsheng. He also can’t harness any spiritual powers!

Are you okay with Matoba sensing your character's inhumanness/their ability to see/their magical or spiritual artifact? Abso-fucking-lutely. 1000% go for it. Matoba’s free to sense Ro’s smelly malevolence on him too!!!
Are you okay with Matoba testing your character's inhumanness/their ability to see in minor ways (such as asking intrusive questions/making references to things that require special perception/using magic on surroundings to see if they sense it? Go for it!!! He’d be more amused about it than anything.
